Haryana government raises award money for Commonwealth Games medal winners
The Haryana government on Wednesday congratulated the medal winners from the state at the ongoing Commonwealth Games and announced a steep hike in monetary incentives for the achievers at the Glasgow edition and also for the future winners at upcoming Asian Games.
“I congratulate the players of Haryana who have won medals at the Commonwealth Games. So far, players from Haryana have won eight medals including three gold and five silver,” Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said addressing a press
conference after chairing a meeting of the State Cabinet here.
He said that on their return from CWG, the government would hold a function to honour them.
Hooda also said from now on, winners of gold, silver and bronze medals at the Asian Games would get Rs two crore, Rs one crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively instead of Rs 25 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh earlier.
He announced that winners of gold, silver and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games, the award money has been raised to Rs one crore, Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh from Rs 15lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs five lakh respectively.
He said that for Olympics, the state government has already announced to give Rs five crore for winner of gold, Rs three crore for silver and Rs two crore for bronze medal.
The Chief Minister also announced the decision of the State Government to give employment to outstanding sports persons.
He said that Sajeev Rajput, an outstanding shooter, has been appointed as Inspector in Police Department.
Constable Ramesh Kumar, Kabbadi player has also been appointed as an Inspector while Anil Kumar, wrestler, has been appointed as Inspector.
Parmila Devi has been appointed as Sub Inspector in recognition of her outstanding contribution in the field of sports as a Kabbadi player.
