Provoked Yusuf ‘slaps’ spectator; faces fine, ban
Yusuf Pathan could be fined and possibly banned for assaulting a fan during a Ranji Trophy match at Reliance Cricket Stadium in Vadodara. Baroda were up against Jammu and Kashmir and Pathan, angry with the fan for constant verbal abuse, had allegedly slapped him.
The incident was reported to the BCCI by match referee Prasanta Mohapatra. According to sources in the board, Pathan could be slapped with Level 2 or 3 offence and action taken against him.
The former India cricketer apparently got very upset with some of the comments made by the spectator while he was at the crease. The young fan was also quite abusive towards Pathan’s Baroda teammates.
“This youngster had been shouting and passing indecent comments against Pathan and other players, such as Ambati Rayudu, when they were batting. Pathan was in no mood to tolerate such a behaviour. Thus, after he got out, he called the youngster inside the dressing room and allegedly slapped him twice,” Baroda Cricket Association secretary Snehal Parikh was quoted as saying by PTI.
Hearing about the incident, Pathan’s younger brother Irfan went to the dressing room and brought the situation under control. A relative of the youth later apologised to Pathan on his behalf and the issue was resolved.
