Statistical highlights at the end of the first cricket Test between India and Sri Lanka, on Saturday.
* Batting first in a Test match and taking a first innings lead of 100 or more, India have lost for the first time.
* India could not achieve a target of less than 200 for the second time in the fourth innings of a Test. They were bundled out for 81 while chasing a target of 120 against West Indies at Bridgetown in March 1997.
* India (112) registered their lowest vs Sri Lanka in Tests, eclipsing the 138 at Colombo, SSC in July 2008.
* Sri Lanka’s 63-run win is their third in four Tests vs India at Galle. They had won by 10 wickets each in 2001 and 2010.
* Overall, Sri Lanka have won 14, lost six and drawn six out of 26 Tests played at Galle International Stadium.
* Sri Lanka have won seven, lost 14 and drawn 15 out of 36 played against India – winning % 38.88.
* Sri Lanka have won all seven out of 19 played against India in Sri Lanka (lost four and drawn eight).

* India (112) have recorded their lowest total vs Sri Lanka in Tests, surpassing the 138 at Colombo, SSC in July 2008.
* Virat Kohli has earned a rare feat, posting four hundreds in his first four Tests as captain but failing to win a single Test for India, losing two and drawing the remaining two.
* Kohli also enjoys an interesting batting record in Tests – just two centuries in a winning cause (one each vs Australia and New Zealand) out of eleven – four in a losing cause and five in drawn games.
* Sri Lanka have conceded 192 to India, which is their biggest while winning a Test match. The record is held by Australia while winning against Sri Lanka by 16 runs at Colombo, SSC in August 1992 after conceding a first innings lead of 291.
* Rangana Herath’s excellent figures of 7 for 48 are the second best by a Sri Lankan bowler vs India in Tests next only to the 8 for 87 by Muttiah Muralitharan at Colombo, SSC in 2001. These two figures are the best by bowlers in India-Sri Lanka Tests.
* Rangana Herath took his tally of wickets to 68 (ave.25.73) in 13 Tests at Galle – the most by him at any venue. His tally includes seven five-wicket hauls and two instances of ten wickets in a Test match.
* Herath has now recorded 22 instances of five wickets or more in an innings. Only four spinners have taken more five- wicket hauls than Herath – Muralitharan (67), Shane Warne (67), Anil Kumble (35) and Harbhajan Singh (25).
* At 37 years 146 days, Herath is the oldest Sri Lankan bowler to produce a seven-wicket haul in Tests.
* Herath’s superb tally of 270 wickets (ave.29.81) in 61 Tests is the third highest by a left-arm spinner in Tests next only to Daniel Vettori (362) and Derek Underwood (297).
* Shikhar Dhawan (134 & 28) has posted 150 runs or more in a Test match for the third time – the first two instances being 187 vs Australia at Mohali in March 2013 and 173 vs Bangladesh at Fatullah in June 2015.
* Since January 2014, Rohit Sharma is averaging 24.85 – his tally being 348 in eight Tests (15 innings), including two fifties. His strike rate of 43.28 is least impressive during this period.
* In six fourth innings played by Rohit, he is averaging 21.00 – the tally being 105 runs – the sequence of scores being 19, 31 not out, 6, 6, 39 & 4.
* In a losing cause, Rohit’s performance is mediocre – his tally being 244 in six Tests at an average of 20.33, including a fifty.
* Dinesh Chandimal (59 and 162 not out plus two dismissals) has got his first Man of the Match award in Tests.
