Shashank Manohar is set to begin his second innings as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, having emerged as the unopposed candidate and the unanimous choice. The Nagpur-based former chief will take the position vacated by Jagmohan Dalmiya, who passed away two weeks ago. Going by the statements Manohar has been making since the IPL spot-fixing scandal broke two years ago, a number of drastic changes are expected in the BCCI — and some significant heads could roll.

ICC chairman N Srinivasan, in particular, has been the subject of Manohar’s scathing scorn. The former president has called for his successor’s head on numerous occasions, insisting that his “autocratic behaviour” had tarnished the Board’s image gravely.

He has also advocated the removal of IPL CEO Sundar Raman, the suspension of the 2014 IPL, and called for the CBI to take over the fixing probe.

Some of the statements that Manohar has made since 2013:

May 27, 2013, on the IPL spot-fixing scandal

“The BCCI should immediately file a criminal complaint with the investigating agencies, urging them to probe all 75 games [76] in the current IPL edition. The Board should provide the investigating agency with the raw feed of the games as well as CCTV footage recorded at every venue. If they want to clean things up, then do it thoroughly. If, at the end of it all, 13 and not three players are involved in fixing, so be it.”

October 3, 2013, on Srinivasan

“Srinivasan is an autocrat and wants all the power for himself. A person who cannot defend his family member has no right to say he will take responsibility of the Board. If you had the slightest of conscience, self-esteem and care for the Board, you ought to have put in your papers the moment your son-in-law was arrested.”

March 26, 2014, on IPL in the Middle East

“Considering the latest developments in the BCCI, it is my considered opinion that until the faith of the people in the integrity of the game is restored, the IPL tournament for the year 2014 should be suspended. Many years back, a conscious decision was taken by the BCCI to abstain from matches in the Middle East in view of certain information regarding rampant betting and match-fixing. As far as I know, that decision has not been revoked.”

July 19, 2015, on IPL CEO Sundar Raman

“Raman should have gone immediately after the Mudgal Committee report found him prima facie guilty of wrongdoings. He ought to have stepped down immediately at that time. Now, to restore the faith of people in IPL and the game, Raman needs to go.”

July 19, 2015, on the IPL probe

“According to me, a probe by an independent body like the CBI is required. Because, the BCCI does not have investigating powers. It is only the CBI which has the investigative power all over India, including in different states.”
