Injury to JP Duminy came as a blow to South Africa before the start of the Test series. And after the 108-run defeat to India at Mohali, the visitors would hope to get him up and running in the second Test starting in Bangalore on November 14. All indications suggest he would be fit to take the field.
His absence robbed South Africa not only an experienced batsman in the middle, but also a part-time spinner who could have had lot of impact in the crumbling tracks of Mohali.
“JP Duminy had the stitches removed from this right hand laceration two days ago. He will have a net session in the next couple of days and should be available for selection for the second Test match in Bengaluru,” team manager Mohammed Moosajee was quoted as saying in a press release from Cricket South Africa on Saturday.
The visitors also hope to have fast bowler Morne Morkel back for the second Test while they will take a call on Dale Steyn only after assessing his fitness two days before the Bangalore Test. Steyn suffered a groin injury and did not bowl in India’s second innings.
