Day 2 Recap
Wagging his finger, Ravichandran Ashwin charged towards Dean Elgar who had been caught by Ravindra Jadeja at point. The batsman, who had bad-mouthed the pitch, was getting a mouthful. You can’t expect to get a silent farewell after calling the home team’s sacred surface “not a good cricket wicket” and within hours of that comment, end up mishitting an immensely avoidable adventurous shot against easily the best bowler playing this Test. You don’t take chances against Ashwin, not in 2015, certainly not at Mohali. And if you do and can’t pull it off, you walk back to the dressing room silently.
Dale Steyn unlikely to take field on Day 3
With the opening cricket Test delicately poised after two days of intense action, South Africa have suffered a big blow as pace spearhead Dale Steyn is unlikely to take field on Saturday due to a groin strain.
Stats: R Ashwin adds unique record to his name
Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) has recorded his first instance of five wickets in an innings vs South Africa – his 13th in Tests. At Johannesburg in December 2013, in his only previous Test against them, he had failed to take a wicket – his figures being 0/25 & 0/83.
