Sachin’s son slams ton in U-16 trials
Arjun made106 off 156 balls in a low-scoring Mumbai Cricket Association U-16 Payyade Trophy encounter.
Mumbai Cricket witnessed an all too familiar entry into the score-book on Tuesday as a Tendulkar reached three-figures. Only this time it was an A. Tendulkar who recorded the ton with Arjun, son of the retired legend Sachin, slamming 106 off 156 balls in a low-scoring Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) U-16 Payyade Trophy encounter. As it turned out the match is being played at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana.
Arjun, who is playing for Sunil Gavaskar XI, smashed 16 fours and two sixes in his knock to help his team reach 218 against Rohit Sharma XI. The tournament acts as a selection trial for U-16 cricketers in Mumbai.
According to Sunil Gavaskar XI coach Vikas Satam, Arjun batted fearlessly and never let the match pressure get to him.
“We didn’t get a good start and we desperately were looking for someone to score. Arjun today played his natural game. He played his strokes nicely and never once let the pressure get to him. We kept losing wickets from one end but Arjun took up the responsibility and batted the team out of a hole. It was a chance-less innings and as this tournament is a selection trial, it must have boosted his confidence greatly,” Satam said.
Arjun has been part of the Mumbai under-14 side before and this was his first century after a gap of three years.
