SA vs Eng, 4th ODI: Here’s why South Africa are wearing pink against England
South Africa would be looking to stage a comeback in their five-match ODI series against England on Friday after finding themselves down 2-1. In the fourth ODI at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, the Proteas took the field wearing a fully pink kit. This is done to support World Cancer Day which was on 4th February.
The ODI has also been called as “Pink ODI” and the day given a nomenclature of “Pink Day”.
In fact, many sections of the stands are also given a pink shade with spectators also wearing the pink shirt in support.
Speaking about the initiative, England’s Joe Root said, “It’s something I have not experienced before and I am really looking forward to it.”
“I’ve heard they are banging on the tunnel when you walk out to bat and I am sure it will be sold out being the pink game here, so it’s really exciting to be a part of that and I’m looking forward to hopefully making some runs again,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC.
