High Court ask DDCA to deal with ICC on their own

In a major setback to the Delhi and district Cricket association (DDCA), the Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to pass orders on a plea seeking permission to use the RP Mehra block (Old Clubhouse) during the upcoming semi-final of the World T20. The question of whether the March 30 match will be held in Delhi is still up in the air, with the DDCA officials saying that they would “approach the ICC and Justice Mudgal” to “consider their decisions.”
Meanwhile, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Justice Mukul Mudgal, who had been appointed by the High court to oversee the functioning of the DDCA told the court that he would be “ready to relinquish supervisory capacity” if there were “problems” with his decisions regarding the stadium.
Advocate Nitin Mishra, appearing on behalf of Justice Mudgal, however, also told the court that clearance would be required from the SDMC if the DDCA wanted to use the RP Mehra block. “If they file a representation before us, we need clearance,” said Mishra.
The DDCA had approached the court after the ICC had sent a communication to the DDCA that it would have to “reconsider” holding the match at Ferozshah Kotla stadium if there were continued restrictions on using the entire area. The DDCA does not have a completion certificate for the RP Mehra block, and Justice Mudgal had suggested that only the media, broadcasters and commentators should be accommodated in the block. The ICC, however, took the stand that the block could not be left vacant. Appearing before the bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru, the lawyers for the DDCA sought directions to Justice Mudgal to “change his decision.”
