Uttarakhand cricket associations join hands to get BCCI affilation

Uttarakhand’s three of the five major cricket associations- Uttarakhand Cricket Association, Abhimanyu Cricket Association and United Cricket Association- have decided to come to one platform in their bid to get affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Monday.

Although Uttarakhand became a separate state in the year 2000, BCCI has so far not given its affiliation to any organization for cricket activities. While Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, which got statehood status along with Uttarakhand in the same year 2000, have already got affiliations from the BCCI.

“In absence of proper affiliation from BCCI, Uttarakhand’s boys move to other states to play cricket for their selection. It is very unfortunate,” Alok Garg, who is director of United Cricket Association, told the Indian Express. He said Uttarakhand’s three cricket associations held a joint meeting on Monday and decided to come to one platform in the interest of the Uttarakhand’s cricket. However, two other organizations- Uttaranchal Cricket Association and Cricket Association of Uttaranchal could not attend the meeting. “We invited both the organizations to attend today’s meeting. They did not attend it,” he further said.

Earlier, these five associations had separately applied for affiliation from the BCCI. “The BCCI wanted all the five contenders to join hands and then apply for affiliation,” a source in the United Cricket Association said.

The United Cricket Association had also appeared before the BCCI’s affiliation committee in Mumbai on August 29, 2009. “We want BCCI to take a decision on our request to give its affiliation to the UCA in the interest of Uttarakhand cricket. We are also registered under the Companies Act, 1956,” Garg further said.
