New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum on Saturday struck the fastest Test hundred -in 54 balls – against Australia at Christchurch. He overtook the previous records of Viv Richards and Misbah-ul-Haq who had reached their milestone in 56 balls.

The swashbuckling ton from the Kiwi skipper involved four sixes and 21 fours.

The Blackcaps’s captain also attained a new record of smashing most sixes overtaking the previous record of 100 Test sixes by Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist.

New Zealand ended their first innings with a respectable total of 370 runs on the board.

Experts and fellow cricketers congratulated and marveled at McCullum’s achievement.
