The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has issued a ‘full completion’ certificate to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), clearing a hurdle for the venue to host World T20 matches.

With regard to the disputed ‘old club house block’ Executive Engineer SDMC, JS Yadav said, “Only blocks A,B and C were within the ambit of the sanctions as of 2005. The old pavilion was kept out of the sanction.” He added that all safety concerns have now been met by the DDCA at the Feroz Shah Kotla grounds.

SDMC Director press and information Mukesh Yadav said, “The SDMC had pointed out 60 anomalies in the stadium. these were removed and the occupancy certificate has now been given,” Yadav said.

The World T20 begins on Tuesday with the qualifiers with the main tournament starting on March 15. The DDCA had sought a completion certificate from the SDMC to host World T20 matches at the Kotla, which the corporation had denied.

However, after the Delhi High Court intervened, SDMC agreed to grant a provisional occupancy certificate to the DDCA on the condition that the cricket body takes care of the 60 anomalies, which the corporation pointed out, within next 20 days.

The ICC Chief Executive Dave Richardson also gave a go ahead to the Ferozshah Kotla stadium, saying they are confident that the matches will proceed at the venue. The Ferozshah Kotla ground will host four World T20 matches, including one of the semifinals on March 30.

DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda said, “We have received the completion certificate from the SDMC and we are confident that we will be able to successfully host all the matches allotted to us.”
