Rohit to play for Mumbai as road to recovery takes him to Kolkata
India batsman Rohit Sharma might travel with the Mumbai team as part of his injury recovery programme to participate in the Cricket Association of Bengal SK Acharya Memorial Trophy from October 26 to November 1 in Kolkata.
Sharma fractured his finger in England and underwent surgery to get it fixed. The 26-year-old was also diagonsed with a shoulder problem before the Champions League T20 in September.
Sharma had a few batting sessions at the Wankhede Stadium and MCA-BKC ground over the last week but feels that he needs some match-practice before playing for India A in Sri Lanka’s warm-up game at CCI on October 30. “I have not played any match since my injury two months ago. I don’t want to go to the India A game straight away. I always believe that practice before games is crucial, especially after a layoff. I want to get that feel of bat agains ball again,” Sharma said.
Interestingly, the MCA announced a 15-member squad led by Suryakumar Yadav, which doesn’t featuer Sharma’s name. According to a MCA official, Sharma is scheduled to be part of the team but only for a single game in Kolkata.
