Attempt was made to kill S. Sreesanth in Tihar jail, claims brother-in-law
A family member of cricketer S Sreesanth has alleged that there was an attempt to kill the former Indian player when he was lodged in Tihar jail in the IPL spot-fixing scam.
Sreesanth’s brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishnan told a TV talk show on Friday that another jail inmate, who had been an alleged accused in a murder case, tried to kill the cricketer. But, Balakrishnan said he had not come across any link for the incident with the IPL scam.
Sreesanth was arrested in the spot-fixing scam in May 2013. The player, however, had not raised the issue so far.
Balakrishnan, a playback singer, said Sreesanth was subjected to cruelty at the jail. Two players in the then Indian cricket team had grudge towards Sreesanth.
He said the criminal in the cell tried to attack Sreesanth with a sharp weapon-like object, but Sreesanth managed to evade from the bid. Later, police came to his rescue.
Delhi police had slapped various provisions under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Sreesanth and other players accused in the scam.
