Gang betting on IPL matches busted; cash, car, phones recovered
The division number 2 police, busted a gang betting on cricket matches of Indian premier league (IPL) late on Friday.
The police claimed that accused operated from moving car and kept changing locations to avert police. The police recovered Rs 22,000 in cash, three mobile phones, one diary and a Tavera car from the accused.
The accused were identified as Sukhbir Singh alias Sunny and Amandeep Singh alias Bhima of Khudd Mohalla. Sunny was also booked in another betting case in city in 2009.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (central) Satish Malhotra addressing media said police arrested the accused following a tip off.
The accused are in their forties and indulged in betting since five years.
Surinder Mohan SHO division number 2 said that the accused won Rs 1.5 lakh from the bets on Chennai Vs Mumbai match held on Friday and the payments were to be collected on Saturday.
The police is now searching for other members of the gang through the names mentioned in diary recovered from accused.
