What went Right: Hardik Pandya ran around the Chepauk outfield to snare three memorable catches to dismiss Chennai’s 1-2-3. Then, he wielded the willow and thumped the ball into the upper tiers of the stadium in the match-turning 19th over from Pawan Negi to set up a sensational win for Mumbai Indians.
Also, South African Marchant de Lange made up for Lasith Malinga’s absence with a spell of pace and aggression while not conceding a single run off the bat in his first spell. Jagadeesha Suchith’s left-arm spin once again proved to be the most valuable gain of the season for Mumbai as he tied down the high-profile CSK middle-order.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (bt Punjab)
What Went Right: Chris Gayle watched his beloved Cristiano Ronaldo score a goal in the UEFA Champions League the previous night and wanted to emulate his characteristic celebration routine. So he scored a ton, and did just that. But not before he had completely dismantled and demoralized Kings XI Punjab and sent an open threat to all bowling attacks in the IPL. RCB’s night was made even more memorable by Starc, who proved why he’s the ‘Mitchell’ that needs to be feared. He not only out-performed Johnson, he also finished with 4/15—including the wicket of his fellow left-arm pacer.
Conclusion
With nothing having gone wrong for either team, Sunday’s clash is set to be a classic. While it isn’t quite a must-win, two points here may go on to make a difference between a Qualifier berth and an Eliminator one.
