Hunt for Indian cricket team coach intensifies
It is learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has begun in earnest to hunt for a new coach. The top brass of the Indian board has already spoken to ODI captain MS Dhoni and Test skipper Virat Kohli earlier. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur too has made it clear that the board wasn’t going to rush in to making any appointment. The team in Bangladesh was under the charge of team director, Ravi Shastri. But following the unexpected reversal — India lost the ODI series 1-2 — the board is now keen to have a coach in place before the team leaves for Sri Lanka next month.
In addition to Shastri, Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and Bharat Arun have been traveling with the team as part of the support staff since they were drafted in for the ODI leg of the England tour last year.
Shastri had made it clear that he would be having a word with the BCCI bosses about his future, but it’s unclear whether he will be offered the job at this stage.
