Statistical highlights of the fifth ODI between India and South Africa.

# South Africa (3-2) have registered their first bilateral series win over India on Indian soil. They had lost the four and drawn one before recording a win in India.

# South Africa have won three successive bilateral series for the first time vs India in ODIs – by 3-2 in South Africa in 2010-11 and by 2-0 in South Africa in 2013-14 and by 3-2 in India in 2015-16.

# South Africa’s 3-2 series win over India is the first instance of an overseas bilateral series triumph against the other between the two sides.

# South Africa’s 214-run win is their biggest win over India in terms of runs – their sixth largest in ODIs – the largest being by 272 runs vs Zimbabwe at Benoni on October 22, 2010.

# India’s loss to South Africa by 214 runs is their second biggest in terms of runs in ODIs next only to the 245-run defeat to Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 29-10-2000

# South Africa have won their first ODI vs India at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. India had won the first three ODIs played against South Africa at this venue – by 35 runs on November 6, 1996; by 74 runs on December 14, 1996 and by 5 wickets on November 28, 2005.

# For the second time, a side has won all five games after batting first in a five-match series – the first instance being in a series between South Africa and Pakistan in the UAE in 2013 – a series won by South Africa by 4-1.

# South Africa (438/4) have registered their highest total vs India in ODIs, obliterating the 365 for two at Ahmedabad on February 27, 2010.

# The aforesaid total is the highest by any team against India in ODIs, outstripping the 411 for eight by Sri Lanka at Rajkot on December 15, 2009. These two scores are the only totals of 400 or more against India.

# South Africa’s 438 for four is the highest by any team at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, surpassing the 358 for six by New Zealand vs Canada on March 13, 2011.

# South Africa’s total is the joint third-highest in ODIs. Four of the top six scores in ODIs have been recorded by South Africa – their highest being 439 for two vs West Indies at Johannesburg on January 18, 2015.

# South Africa became the first team to register six totals of 400 or more in ODIs, surpassing the five by India. Australia and Sri Lanka have recorded two each while England and New Zealand have one each to their credit.

# In all, seventeen totals of 400 or more have been recorded in ODIs.

# Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis were involved in a stand of 154 for the second wicket to establish a record for any wicket in ODIs at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, eclipsing the 145 for the third wicket between Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara for Sri Lanka vs New Zealand on March 18, 2011.

# The aforesaid partnership is the second highest for the second wicket for South Africa vs India in ODIs behind the 178 (unbroken) between Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis at Colombo (RPS) on September 25, 2002.

# The unbroken 164-run stand for the third wicket between Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers is now the highest for any wicket at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in ODIs.

# Hashim Amla has taken 123 innings to race to his 6,000 runs in ODIs and to establish a record for the quickest to this milestone, surpassing the 136 innings taken by Virat Kohli.

# Amla is the quickest to 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 and 6,000 runs in ODIs.

# Hashim Amla could manage just 89 runs at an average of 17.80 in five innings – his lowest in a series/competition when he has played atleast four or more innings.

# de Villiers’ strike rate of 195.08 (119 off 61 balls) is the fourth highest by a South African batsman in an innings of 100 or more. He had a strike rate of 338.63 during his innings of 149 off 44 balls vs West Indies at Johannesburg on January 18, 2015, which is a world record.

# Quinton de Kock has recorded his fifth hundred in nine innings against India (his eighth in 52 innings in ODIs) to establish a record by any batsman for hitting five hundreds in just nine innings against any team, surpassing the 18 innings taken by Salman Butt to post five centuries against India.

# de Kock’s tally of five hundreds is now exceeded only by Abraham de Villiers (six) for South Africa in ODIs. In all, seven batsmen have registered five hundreds or more vs India in ODIs – Sanath Jayasuriya(7), Ricky Ponting (6), Kumar Sangakkara (6), de Villiers (6), Salman Butt (5), Nathan Astle (5) and de Kock (5).

# de Kock has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the fifth time in ODIs – third time vs India.

# Abraham de Villiers is the first visiting batsman to register seven hundreds in ODIs on Indian soil. The four batsmen with 7 centuries or more on Indian soil being Sachin Tendulkar (20), Virat Kohli (10), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (7) and AB de Villiers (7).

# de Villiers is averaging 70.31 in ODIs on Indian soil – his tally being 1125 in 20 innings, including seven hundreds and three fifties. He is the only batsman to have averaged 70-plus in ODIs in India (minimum 1,000 runs).

# de Villiers is the first batsman to have managed 8,000 runs apart from averaging fifty-plus and maintaining strike rate of 100-plus. For the first time in his glittering career, he has touched strike rate of 100.00. His present tally is 8403 runs (ave.54.21) at a strike rate of 100.28 in
195 matches.

# de Villiers is the first captain to register three centuries in an ODI series.

# de Villiers has registered five hundreds in ODIs after coming in to bat after the 25th over. Virat Kohli has achieved the feat twice. No other batsman has registered more than one hundred after coming into bat after the 25th over.

# Amit Mishra (10-0-78-0) had equalled his unwanted record in ODIs. He had similar figures against Australia at Nagpur on October 30, 2013. These two instances are his only ones when he has conceded more than 70 runs in an innings without capturing a wicket.

# In South Africa’s innings, all batsmen have recorded strike rate of 100-plus – the ninth instance in ODIs when atleast five batsmen have batted.

# Twenty sixes were registered in South Africa’s innings – the second highest in an ODI innings – the record is 22 by New Zealand in 21 overs vs West Indies at Queenstown on January 1, 2014.

# 272 runs through boundaries (20 sixes and 38 fours) is also a new record for most runs through boundaries in an ODI innings.

# de Villiers’ sixth century vs India is his 23rd in ODIs – 19 in a winning cause. He has now twelve hundreds as captain in ODIs.

# de Villiers’ tally of six centuries is a record in India-South Africa ODIs.

# de Villiers’ first Player of the series award vs India is his sixth in ODIs.

# Faf du Plessis (133 not out) has posted his career-best score in ODIs. His first century against India is his fifth in ODIs.

# For the second time, three centuries have been recorded in an ODI innings – Quinton de Kock (109), Faf du Plessis (133 retired hurt) and Abraham de Villiers (119). South Africa had provided the first instance as well. In their total of 439 for two vs West Indies at Johannesburg on January 18, 2015, Hashim Amla (153 not out), Rilee Rossouw (128) and AB de Villiers (149) had posted centuries.
