The BCCI has decided to discontinue the Champions League T20 with immediate effect, board secretary Anurag Thakur said on Wednesday.
The Indian Express had reported earlier that the BCCI was planning to replace Champions League T20 for top domestic clubs from across the world with a mini-version of IPL starting this September in UAE.
Terming the decision as ‘difficult’, Thakur said: “Unfortunately, off the field, Champions League T20 wasn’t sustaining the interest of the fans as we had hoped.” However, he said that the decision was not taken in a haste.
“This decision was made, after consultation with all our commercial partners and meeting the contractual obligations of all parties involved.” he added.
The tournament was scheduled to be held in September-October.
