Will not ask BCCI to lift Ajit Chandila ban: Aniruddh Chaudhary

The BCCI treasurer and secretary of Haryana Cricket Association Aniruddh Chaudhary on Thursday made it clear that his state association would not make any plea to the Board to revoke the ban imposed on tainted cricketer Ajit Chandila.

Chandila, S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan were recently acquitted by Patiala House Court here which dropped the MCOCA charges levelled against them by the Delhi Police in IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal but BCCI’s life ban continues to remain in place. As far as Chandila is concerned, he is still under indefinite suspension.

While Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) chief TC Mathew and Mumbai CA secretary P V Shetty have stated that they would request the BCCI to consider allowing Sreesanth and Chavan to play club cricket, Chandila will not find it easy as his parent state body HCA is not behind him currently.

“There is a BCCI suspension on Ajit Chandila and until the Board decides otherwise, we are not thinking on those lines. Haryana Cricket Association is not going to make any appeal to BCCI regarding revoking Ajit Chandila’s suspension. If the BCCI decides anything, then we would see what we need to do. Till then Chandila’s case would not be taken up by us,” Chaudhary said on the sidelines of Board’s marketing committee meeting.

In fact, when another HCA official was enquired, he also straightaway said that Chandila “would not even be allowed to play even a district match as far as our association is concerned.” According to BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU), the trio were found guilty of indulging malpractices.
