Rajat Paliwal scored a strokeful century to help Services post 254 all out as Saurashtra pace spearhead Jaydev Unadkat stood out with a six-wicket haul on Day 1 of the Group C Ranji Trophy cricket encounter in New Delhi on Friday.
Looking to make use of the early morning due and the chilly weather, Soumik Chatterjee decided to bowl first at the Palam Ground and Unadkat (6-80) turned on the heat.
Paliwal’s (121) fourth-wicket 112-run stand with Yashpal Singh (55 not out) made the difference as new-ball bowlers Unadkat and Shaurya Sanandia (3-62) kept getting wickets to justify their captain’s faith in his bowlers.
Paliwal’s 142-ball knock was laced with 19 fours and a six before being sclaped by Unadkat.
In reply, Jaydev Shah-led side was 19 for no loss at stumps, still trailing by 235 runs in the first innings.
Openers Mohsin Ahmedbhai Dodia (5 not out), who is making his first-class debut, and Avi Barot (14 not out) are battling on after facing 10 overs from Services medium-pacers.
