HPCA must change status: Virbhadra Singh
Chief minister Virbhadra Singh has extended an olive branch to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), offering to withdraw the cases against it if the office-bearers agree to revert it back to its original status of a sports society. The HPCA is headed by Anurag Thakur, a BJP MP who is also the BCCI secretary.
Before the Congress government’s return to power in 2012, HPCA – which was a registered sports society at Dharamshala — had converted itself into a company and got its registration done at Kanpur. “They (HPCA) have misused and abused law to become a company after having been allotted land worth crores for a cricket stadium in Dharamshala and another piece of land for building a luxury resort. This was because the HPCA was a society. Soon, it converted itself into a company and tried to grab government’s assets,” Virbhadra said.
