India men’s hockey coach Paul van Ass has been fired by Hockey India, the PTI reported on Monday.

“I have been fired by Hockey India,” he told the media.

The Indian Express had earlier reported that Van Ass allegedly had a spat with the Hockey India director, Narinder Batra during the World Hockey League semi-final clash against Malaysia.

Earlier, Van Ass failed to turn up at the stipulated date for the national camp at Shilaroo, Himachal Pradesh which fueled the speculation that all is not well between Hockey India and the Dutchman.

Barely five months into the job, Van Ass’s departure can affect India’s preparation for Rio Olympics which is a year away.
