Preity Zinta, co-owner of the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, has responded to The Indian Express report on Tuesday about her meeting with the IPL working group where she spoke about her suspicions that some of her players might have thrown matches in the past. Denying the report, Zinta, however, said that she had suggested to the working group that those featuring in the IPL should be made to undergo random polygraph (lie detector) tests.

Taking to twitter, she called the report “inaccurate, irresponsible and malicious”. She added that she gave the lie-detector test suggestion as she thought that “prevention was better than cure”.

Prior the publication of the story, The Indian Express had tried to reach Zinta for over a week through the KXIP management and her publicist, but couldn’t get a response. Emails were sent with the details that appeared in the report, but neither did she respond to or deny its contents.

As reported in the story, those present at the meeting had told The Indian Express that Zinta had shared her suspicions with the board and also claimed that she had pulled up players, once even confronted a player angrily over the issue, and alerted other franchises about the behaviour of some players.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur was noncommittal about the report, preferring to just note that the board received lots of suggestions from the franchise representatives but “can’t divulge the findings of the meeting”. “She (Zinta) has categorically issued a statement in this regard,” he said.
