Ranji Trophy: Manoj Tiwary named Bengal captain
Manoj Tiwary has been appointed Bengal Ranji captain. He replaces Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who stepped down in the wake of reported dressing room unrest during the team’s pre-season tour of Sri Lanka. Tiwary, however, denied the discord. “Dressing room is united. If there’s a problem, that is at the managerial level. Players are in together.”
The middle-order batsman added that Shukla’s presence would help the team. “He has had been a solid performer for Bengal. A thorough professional; I won’t have any problem managing him. Our goal is to win the Ranji Trophy and I want finish as the highest run-getter in the tournament.”
Tiwary had earlier led Bengal in 2012-13 and this will be his second stint at the helm. Bengal also have a new coach this term with Sairaj Bahutule taking over from Ashok Malhotra.
