KXIP dasher David Miller, fresh from a 30-ball 54 against the Rajasthan Royals, in an exclusive interaction with The Indian Express reveals what he likes the most about Virender Sehwag’s game, and more. Excerpts

Getting dropped woke you up. You returned in grand fashion.

Yeah was good to be among the runs and contribute for the side. It was a great game and was happy to make a substantial contribution for the team.

How difficult has it now become to sustain pressure on bowlers with a lot of variety in their bowling?

The bowlers have become very smart now. As you said, they have a lot of variety and can really get on top of the batters. So for someone like me, it’s important that if there’s a ball to be hit, I hit. Because if you don’t convert that boundary ball, the bowler will come hard at you. So in order to keep the bowler under check, it’s very important that the loose balls get the treatment they deserve.

One shot which assures you that it’s your day?

A forward defensive push. You weren’t expecting that right? (laughs) Well I would say something straight, out of the middle. Hitting out of the middle gives me confidence early in the innings.

KXIP is a star-studded unit with veterans like Virender Sehwag and modern-day greats like Glenn Maxwell. What excites you the most about experience around?

These guys are amazing. Maxwell, Sehwag, Johnson, Bailey…all of them. One thing which I like the most about Sehwag’s game is the freedom with which he plays. There are no complications, a simple approach. There is absolutely no fear of failure. He approaches the game in a simple manner and expresses well.

You reckon the fear of failures is affecting young cricketers?

Now I didn’t mean that way. I mean look at the young Indian talent coming up in the IPL. It’s just phenomenal. No fear of failure is something how Sehwag approaches his game and it’s something I like about his game.

Almost all the foreign recruits in the KXIP are coming from the World Cup. How difficult is it to keep the body in shape with all the travelling and cricket?

It’s something we got to manage and so far the management is doing a great job in keeping us fresh for the games.

How has been your association with coach Sanjay Bangar?

He’s a great guy. Has himself played cricket and understands the game pretty well. He’s always up for a chat and loves to discuss and present ideas. So, yeah has been a great experience with him so far.

Big game against the CSK. Are the boys up for it?

Absolutely. We are well prepared and need to play to the best of our abilities.
