Ranji Trophy Group C: Batsman Ravindra Jadeja rescues Saurashtra on Day 1

Ravindra Jadeja, out of the Indian team, scored a timely 91 to help Saurashtra reach 270 for six on day one of their Group C match against Tripura in the Ranji Trophy.

While Jadeja came to his team’s rescue from 66 for three, Cheteswar Pujara (10) failed to get going.

Another handy contribution came from Sheldon Jackson, who remained unbeaten on 82 at stumps.

Jadeja, who has fallen out of favour with the Indian team selectors, occupied the crease for 138 balls and scored at a decent strike rate of 65.94. He ended with 11 boundaries.

Sheldon too played a solid knock when his team needed. His 152-ball innings comprised eight fours and a six.

Abhijit Dey did the maximum damage for Tripura, taking four wickets including the scalps of Pujara and Jadeja.

J&K reach 247/7 vs Kerala on a controversy-hit 1st day

Vice-captain Parveez Rasool and senior batsman Bandeep Singh scored half-centuries as Jammu and Kashmir reached 247 for seven against Kerala on a controversy-hit opening day of their Ranji Trophy group league match.

At the start of the day, there was lot of confusion as two warring factions of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) named two separate squad with former Delhi player Mithun Manhas being named captain in one while the other team named Rasool as the captain.

In the end, the Manhas-led team took the field with Rasool as his deputy.

The home team were in trouble as they were reduced to 91 for four with Shubham Khajuria (4), Adil Reshi (26), Ian Dev Singh (38) and skipper Manhas (20).

19 wickets fall on Day 1 at Palam

As much as 19 wickets fell on day one of Group C game between Jharkhand and Services, who were leading the visitors by 86 runs after being at 131 for nine in the Ranji Trophy.

Services skittled out Jharkhand for 45 after winning the toss, courtesy a six wicket burst from Diwesh Pathania.

Brief scores: Jharkhand 45 in 37.5 overs (Rahul Shukla 13; Diwesh Pathania 6/19, Raushan Raj 3/14). Services 131/9 (Rajat Paliwal 26; Ajay Yadav (2/28), Rahul Shukla (2/53), Shahbaz Nadeem (2/22) and Jaskaran Singh (2/21).

Hyderabad made decent start against Goa

Hyderabad got off to a decent start on the first day of their opening Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match against Goa at the Goa Cricket Association ground.

Asked to bat, the visitors posted 246 for five before the day’s proceeding was called off early due to rains with 21 overs still remaining to be completed.

Electing to bowl, Goa got an early break-through when medium pacer Rituraj Singh dismissed opener Tanmay Agarwal (14) with the visitor’s score at 25.

But skipper Hanuma Vihari (82) and other opener Akshath Reddy (61) then steadied Hyderabad innings with a 113 run second wicket partnership.
