Former Australia batsman Stuart Law was on Tuesday appointed an advisor to Bangladesh’s junior team ahead of the next year’s Under-19 World Cup in the South Asian nation.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials confirmed the appointment of Law, 46, who played one Test and 54 ODIs between 1994 and 1999. Law had earlier coached Bangladesh’s national team in 2012, taking them to the Asia Cup final, before quitting for family reasons.

BCB’s CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said Law’s appointment was a “very important milestone” for the next generation of Bangladesh cricketers. “He had a remarkable playing career at the top level and has vast experience of coaching both established and emerging cricketers,” Chowdhury said in a statement.

“We are very happy to get him on board ahead of this massive competition for our boys. “Law is expected to arrive in Bangladesh later this month to help build the team for the U-19 World Cup to be played in February. The Bangladesh U-19 team recently recorded impressive home and away wins over current U-19 champions South Africa.
